Note: Harmonized - apprenticeship training requirements are aligned across Canada within the Red Seal trades.
Program standards for each trade's required training are set by SkilledTradesBC.
Camosun College is a proud supporter of the Red Seal interprovincial trades program.
Vancouver Island's largest provider of trades training
Take your carpentry and construction craft training to the highest standards as an apprentice to complete your Red Seal Certification.
As a sponsored apprentice, you'll receive on-the-job practical skills from your employer. At Camosun, you'll develop your skills in communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, mathematics, and safe work practices.
Program standards and curriculum are set by SkilledTradesBC.
Four levels of Carpentry training
You'll be in school about once a year to complete a level of in-school theory to provide balance for your on-the-job practical experience. Each level of training is seven weeks and includes a SkilledTrades BC exam.
Look over the schedule with your employer to decide when is the best time to come to Camosun.
Apply for financial support
You may be eligible to receive Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while attending your course.
Apprentices should apply for Apprentice EI financial support up to four weeks before the start of class.
Late applications may result in Service Canada denying funding. The Government of Canada also has funding opportunities.
Note: Course fees are determined by the length of study and materials required to complete a level.
Underrepresented groups
Training programs are available to help meet the needs of underrepresented groups in the skilled trades, including women, Indigenous peoples, and other equity-deserving groups.
Erasing Barriers Fund
Additional funding may be available through the Erasing Barriers Fund. Please contact Financial Aid.
